In one of his lectures on the War Between the States, Dr. McClanahan implied that the rise of the Progressive Era was a misguided response to the problems caused by the victory of the Northern industrial centralizers. Does Dr. McClanahan or anyone else have any sources on this idea, any readings?

No, not the Progressive Era, but the Populists who realized they cut a raw deal with Northern industrialists in the 1850s. Lawrence Goodwyn’s “The Populist Revolt” is the standard treatment of the movement.
