My question in regards to the Mr. McClanahan’s last lecture in this series; “Corruption, Compromise, and the End of Military Reconstruction ” is about the plains bison and how they may/may not have been used to rid the Indians from the plains. I have been polishing off my college project on the animal, and came across a historical tidbit that claimed the Federal Gov’t ordered the Army to kill many bison, hoping it would then kill off the Indians, as it was their food source. Is there any truth to this? More specifically, are there any source documents to back this up.

    Matt,

I would have to do some research on this topic to say yes or no, but I would not be surprised.

Yea, I’ve seen it more then once. However, its only been as a passing “fact” and never with any real footnote or citation. Just figured I’d ask.
