"United" and united.

    This relates to lecture four, “The Declaration of Independence”. In the last paragraph of the Declaration of Independence the word, united, is not capitalized in “united States” and is capitalized in “United Colonies”. Does this have significance? Because of some of the content in the lecture, I am re-reading the Declaration without assuming that it is the founding document of The United States of America.

    Not likely. Capitalization was rather irregular in the 18th century.
