I’ve been trying to figure out why Teddy Roosevelt would break up Northern Securities Company, when he clearly, as Rothbard put it, “spent his whole life in the Morgan ambit.” So why break up a Morgan trust?
In your essay Theodore Roosevelt and the Modern Presidency, you explain how the NSC was a trust between the Hill-Morgan lines (great northern & northern pacific) designed to cement their cooperation and prevent Harriman from gaining control of Northern Pacific.
I suppose Dom Armentano’s book would help clarify this, since that’s your source in the essay for that case.
