I’m having a nice discussion with a friend of mine about the idea of private defense. She brought up a question related to the problem of free riders (e.g. those who will choose not to participate in an insurance-based defense system, knowing they will receive the benefits of their neighbors’ participation).
My question is this: what are your suggestions for resources where I can begin to learn more about libertarian responses to this question?
