In the lecture about Eisenhower and about Operation Ajax it is mentioned that one piece of blow back from the installation of the Shah was the migration of opposition to the regime and the U.S. into mosques to avoid persecution. While this seems plausible, does this claim not over-simplify the origins of the radicalized Islamic threat since it was limited to Iran. Or, are there other instances of this type of blow back?
The growth of radical Islam in the second half of the twentieth century had numerous causes, but this particular factor may have accelerated the process in Iran.
