Just finished the course and you’ve got my curiosity piqued on John Tyler. Can you recommend a good biography on him to read?
Easily the best is Chitwood’s. Although it overlooks some evidence, it depicts Tyler as a cradle Jeffersonian, which is how I understand him.
May is a very pedestrian account, and Crapol is hostile. Seager devotes abundant attention to his wife, etc., which I find uninteresting.
The book, “Recarving Rushmore” has a lot of good insights on Tyler as well as all of the other presidents. Very good and interesting read.
Sure, but it ranks him the best president ever, it only gives Tyler six pages.
