Relevant in connection with Tom’s latest video response, I came across a post on a blog yesterday that noted:
“The Democrat Media Complex has created a vast swath of human botnets, which can be set off in mass to launch denial-of-liberty attacks on any and all who oppose the New Progressive Order. Like computer botnets, the human variety is programmed and programmable and act in concert, unhindered by scruples or actual thought.”
Now it is probably not necessary to partisan this observation, as the original writer did (“Democrat-Media Complex”), as it is more of an ideological thing (“Progressive-Media Complex” would be more apt; though I for my part find the whole “X-Y Complex” phrasing formula to be trite. But I digress).
Libertarians often talk – properly, and with good reason – about the liberating tendencies of the new technology (decentralization, network-connectedness, routing around old institutionalized systems). But it has it’s downside, too, as it has never been easier to mobilize a faceless, anonymous mob and whip them into a hysterical frenzy chanting the same mindless memes, dehumanizing the targets of the hysteria, and rabbidly frothing at their mouth for blood..
