Where there Black Confederate Officers? I heard the Confederate Marines Commander was Black and was in charge of White Soldiers. I knew there were Black Confederates but I never read anything about any being officers.

This is not true. The commandant of the Confederate Marine Corps was Lloyd J. Beall, a white Virginian.

In general, the quest to demonstrate that there was any substantial number of black Confederate soldiers is a snipe hunt.

Black Confederate soldiers existed but has been exaggerated. There were never any “official” black Confederate soldiers until the very end of the War (a black “regiment” was raised in Richmond), but blacks did “serve” as teamsters, cooks, etc. There were black pilots for the Confederate navy with at least one being killed in action (attack on the U.S.S. Waterwitch).
